Rudra Abhishek
Rudra Abhishek is a Puja ritual of Lord Shiva performed during the holy Shraavan Maas (July-August) of the Hindu Calendar. Pujya Swami ji decorates the Shivling, the iconic representation of Lord Shiva and offers Panchamrit which is a mix of milk, honey, sugar, ghee, curd, Ganga Jal, and Bael Patra. The decorated Shivling makes for a very captivating image. Various mantras relating to Lord Shiva are chanted while the Rudra Abhishek is underway. The Abhishek is then followed by a discourse on tales of the Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati and their sons Lord Kartikeya and Lord Ganesha.
About Rudra Abhishek
Rudra is a name given to Lord Shiva, and Abhishek means cleansing and decoration. Hence, Rudra Abhishek is an ancient ritual where Lord Shiva is worshipped and his Shivling cleansed and decorated. This is a very pious ritual and elevates a seeker to higher consciousness. Holy scriptures state Rudra Abhishek to be the remedy for grah dosh (planetary faults) in horoscope of individuals. Any disturbance or mental chaos in the household is also said to be settled by performing the Rudra Abhishek.
